The Story Behind The Blog...

On February 9th, 1990, my husband Vince and I emigrated to Vancouver, Canada. Although this was an exciting adventure, I was going to miss my family terribly. I was so close to them, and Mum was my best friend, we shared a special bond. We promised we would write every day, and we both kept that promise (except for the wonderful times when we were visiting one another and didn’t need to write). Mum’s first letter to me was 6 pages long; they subsequently grew to 53 pages long (approximately ten days’ news at a time). We just chatted on paper about our days and it was the greatest comfort ever. We used to say ‘wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had telephones where we could see each other’ - not dreaming of course, that years later this would be possible, but too late for us. I still have my lovely Dad, and will be calling on him to dig out photos and to remember stories with me.
Mum passed to spirit in February 1998, and it has been my intention for a long time now to turn her letters into a book. But where to start, has always been the question, as the sheer volume is overwhelming! And so, I have created this page on which I will share my blog, starting from the beginning and working my way through the years. I have laughed and cried reading some of Mum’s letters and I’m sure there will be many more emotional highs and lows.
I hope you will enjoy sharing my journey, and that it will help and inspire anyone living miles from home, or resonate with those who have lost a loved one.
I have called the page Love, Mum x.
